CONTRIBUTORS
In the fall of 2007, the Ruth Lilly Philanthropic
Foundation, at the direction of Ginny and Peter Nicholas,
made a $235,000 gift to the Syracuse-Wawasee Park Foundation’s Trail Project. In
order to promote community
involvement and sense of
ownership, half of that gift was
stipulated as a
two-for-one match. For each dollar raised
within the lakes area community,
the Lilly Foundation would give
two dollars. The Trail
Committee’s goal, therefore,
is to raise a minimum of $58,750.00.
Once again, our lakes area
community has shown its support
in a big way! As a result
of mailings to the Syracuse
Chamber of Commerce members,
Syracuse Lake area residents,
Lake Wawasee property owners as
well as Mail-Journal news
coverage, the Trail Fund has
received gifts, donations and
pledges totaling $57,850.
